JJ CHUAN

J.J. Chuan is the founder of rehyphen®  and had graduated from Parsons The New School of Design. She is appointed by British designer & TV host Kevin McCloud as one of his Top 7 Green heroes in 2018 & 2019. Rehyphen® is created with the aim of solving real-life problems. Her team pioneer in collecting discarded cassette tapes and weaved them into pieces of MusicCloth® as an effort to reduce and eliminate plastic waste, while giving the product a new life. This material applies for home & decor products, fashion accessories to art pieces.

Her MusicCloth® is collected as a museum collection in Red Dot Design Museum, Material ConneXion worldwide library and University of Pennsylvania material lab.She has exhibited her project all around the world which include 2020 Social Design Exhibition Asia: 100 Proposal to the future, NYC x Design,  Bangkok Biennale, Grand Design London, Premiere Vision Paris, Achitect@work London, Pitti Uomo 97 Florence and more.

In addition, she is also selected by City Development Limited as one of the “Inspiring Women Leaders 2020”.  MusicCloth® has been featured as a cover story on EVA airline in-flight magazine, Delta Airline, CNA news, CNN news, Prestige, Esquire, The Edge, UFM100.3, Lian he Zaobao, Inhabitat, Interior Design, and more. Singapore Senior Minister of Sate Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources Dr. Amy Khor wore MusicCloth® top and MusicCloth® clutch bag to Singapore Parliament debate and use rehyphen® story as her closing speech.
